Revolutionizing Wine Packaging: Snow Time L

Designers Evan Chen and Ziming Guo Win Silver A' Packaging Design Award

Evan Chen and Ziming Guo drew inspiration from the process of making yellow rice wine, a traditional Chinese beverage. The essential elements of this process - water, glutinous rice, and time - are represented by abstract snowflakes in the design. The packaging also features illustrations of local mountains and water, forming a complete picture that reflects the local city culture of Shaoxing, where the project was launched in July 2020.

The Snow Time L packaging stands out for its unique properties. The designers developed a thin packaging specifically for female users, using pulp press film and the indentation process to create a snow wrap feeling. The paper seal at the bottle mouth simulates the dynamic opening of yellow rice wine, adding a sense of ceremony to the experience of enjoying the wine.

Realizing this design involved the development of a glass bottle model, paper embossed hot stamping, and a combination of solid wood and cork. The size of the bottle is 275mm*68mm*68mm. The design team also included Leti Liu, Suheng Yao, Yoga Zhai, Fan Zhang, and Min Fang, who all contributed to the successful realization of this project.

One of the challenges the designers faced was balancing the relationship between the traditional brand and the emerging market. The aim was to develop a new product that would appeal to younger consumers while maintaining the brand's traditional customer base of middle-aged and elderly people. The Snow Time L design successfully achieved this balance, as evidenced by its recognition in the prestigious A' Packaging Design Award in 2021.

The Silver A' Design Award is awarded to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, strong technical characteristics, and remarkable artistic skill. The Snow Time L design certainly fits this description, with its unique blend of traditional and modern elements, its innovative approach to packaging, and its successful appeal to a new demographic of wine consumers.
